Sian Lamey Clinical director MindBody Therapy Service by the sea

Sian Lamey

I am Sian Lamey (she/ her) and I set up the service to provide evidence based therapy for adults and teens aged 14+ within the Brighton and Hove area and online.

For as long as I can remember, I have always been curious about people, their history, and how that has shaped them to be the people they are today. What excites and motivates them, what scares and inhibits them, what makes them sad and feel lonely, what do they do for fun and what fills them with joy? We are such complex beings, with many nuances and differences and yet common humanity is also what connects us to each other and the world we inhabit. This curiosity, is what led me to work within the mental health field and to become the therapist I am today.

I live in Brighton and Hove with my partner and son and outside of the therapy room, I love to spend time outdoors in nature, swimming in the sea, watching the sun setting and the starlings murmuring. I enjoy laughing with friends and good vegan food!

At times, our own life experiences, the community and culture we find ourselves in and the wider world context, can leave us feeling fragmented and distressed. We believe at MindBody Therapy service, that by making space for, acknowledging and accepting all of our parts, that this can help us to integrate and re-connect to our true selves. We would be honoured to hold this space for you, so that you can embark on this courageous journey.

My Skills and Experience

I am an experienced BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and HCPC registered Occupational Therapist (OT).

I have worked in a variety of Mental health settings within the NHS since 2004. This includes working within primary, secondary and acute care services and within specialist Eating disorder and Chronic pain teams. My most recent role within the NHS was as a Senior Psychological therapist, which involved providing 1:1 therapy and group based therapy. I also provided Clinical supervision to other therapists, including trainees. Within my role I also line managed a small team and input into the leadership team, in relation to service development and expansion.

Within my current clinical practise, I draw on a broad range of evidence based approaches including CBT, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and third wave Mindfulness based approaches such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Psychotherapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I am a Polyvagal informed therapist and work in a trauma sensitive way. Click on therapy approaches to learn more about the type of therapy I offer.

I often work with individuals who may be experiencing Depression, Anxiety, Low self-esteem, PTSD, Trauma, Grief/ Bereavement, Stress, Life transitions and Long term physical health conditions. Within my practice, I recognise the interconnectedness of our mind and physical body and how they impact each other. By tuning in and understanding this connection we can begin to make changes, which support our return to health. I would be honoured to walk alongside you on this journey.
